Project Description
Awareness, Prevention and Response to Vicarious Trauma
Working in environments of complex care needs can expose workers to the cumulative effects of trauma. When warning signs are not recognised and specific self care practices are not in place, impacts such as compassion fatigue, become possible.
Ranging from high levels of stress through to burnout and vicarious trauma, workers can find themselves struggling to cope with the demands of their work and consequently their overall functioning and well being can be greatly impacted. This workshop provides clear understanding around compassion fatigue, burnout and vicarious trauma.
Participants will learn:
- Clear markers to help recognise the signs of vicarious trauma
- Staged strategies for prevention
- Awareness to effective responses to burnout and vicarious trauma
- Beyond resilience, the concept of ‘anti-fragility’ and its relationship to vicarious trauma
