The S.A.F.E.R.® Method for De-escalation
Whether anger is a result of psychosis, intoxication, frustration, invalidation, neglect or other drivers, there are easy to apply strategies informed by robust learnings, that are effective when working with angry clients. We will explore research findings related to anger, the escalation cycle and introduce the highly effective, the S.A.F.E.R.® method.
Collaborative Working with Justice Involved Clients – A Values Based Approach
Justice-involved clients usually have more complex presentations, involving trauma histories, multiple mental health needs including personality challenges and the involvement of multiple agencies in their care and supervision. In this short course we outline a practical values-based model for engagement of stakeholders.
Understanding Trauma, Responding to Trauma
Contemporary work in health, well-being and support settings requires workers to be informed about and responsive to trauma. This workshop will support workers to effectively navigate challenges faced when supporting clients who have been impacted by trauma.
Recovering Function Building Hope
This is a comprehensive program exploring the presenting features, treatment and support needs of BPD and Complex Trauma. We consider their pathways of emergence, their impact on day to day functioning, the challenges of building effectively, meaningful relationships and the role of mental health and support services in helping to restore functionality and build hope for fulfilling lives.
Awareness, Prevention and Response to Vicarious Trauma
Working in environments of complex care needs can expose workers to the cumulative effects of trauma. When warning signs are not recognised and specific self care practices are not in place, impacts such as compassion fatigue, become possible.
Reflective Practices
Effective working with risk, trauma and complexity requires reflective awareness and reflective thinking. Otherwise, we may inadvertently contribute to the challenges or problems we are trying to positively impact.
Critical Incident Support Debriefing
We review the literature on CISD and consider contributing factors that can influence responses to critical incidents and highlight key principles and strategies to address challenging situations and guide practice and response. Case discussions are used to promote learning and application.
